What Kind Of Doctor Can I See For Treatment For Panic Attacks?

Written by admin on December 29th, 2009

I need to get treated for anxiety and panic attacks and I dont want to have to go to a psychiatrist. I dont want to call a family doctor and be laughed at or pushed away. Its very discouraging, Any help is appreciated.

Go to a psychologist (Ph.D or Psy.D.). I recommend Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT). CBT is highly effective for treating panic attacks.

Contact a PhD psychologist ask for a consultation and referral to a psychiatrist if medication is indicated.

When I had my panic attacks I saw my regular Dr. He didn’t laugh. In fact I got a prescription for them. Panic attacks are very real. I learned how to control them on my own and they just went away one day. First thing when you are getting a attack you must realize that it is a panic attack and tell yourself you won’t let it control you. You can find some reading on panic attacks on the Internet.

Talk to your primary care Dr. They will listen to you explain everything to you and if needed refer you to a psychiatrist. If your family care Dr pushes you away as you are afraid of find a new Dr. Anxiety is really scary and your family Dr should be concerned about your mental health. They are there to help you.
